October 2025
What a busy start to the term!
The children have settled well into class and are beginning to adjust to the routine of being back at school. We began the term by focusing on democracy, giving children the chance to vote
for their peers into roles such as School and Values Councillor, Eco Councillor, House Captain and Vice Captain. These groups have already been active: School and Values Councillors thanked staff on National Teaching Assistant Day with a thoughtful treat and have also been voicing ideas for improving the lunch hall and playground. Eco Council have been out in the community, helping to tidy the local area with a litter pick
Our school value focus this term is Respect. Staff have noticed that manners around school—particularly in the dining hall—are not as strong as usual, with fewer “pleases” and “thank yous” being heard. We will be working together to ensure our school remains a place of kindness and courtesy.
We’ve also enjoyed some special off-timetable opportunities. A few weeks ago, the children took part in a fun tennis session, and this week the whole school collaborated to create our new school mosaic, designed last year by Year 5. Every child placed at least one tile, contributing to the bigger picture. The finished mosaic, which includes our new class names and motto, will soon be displayed in the playground.
The Ark
Another big focus has been fundraising to reach our £10,000 target to renovate The Ark into a usable learning space. On Saturday, staff completed their sponsored Ironman challenge—a huge well done to everyone who took part and a massive thank you to all who donated. Every metre really did count!
This week’s Pupil Voice
In PE, we have been focusing on underarm throwing, which has been great fun. We welcomed grandparents into class to share memories about toys from their past. This linked to our writing work, where we have been using lots of adjectives to describe different toys and games. In Science, we explored animal footprints, using clues to work out which creatures they belong to.
