What a busy start to the new academic year. I cannot believe it is October already. September saw the children decide on the positions of House Captains, Vice Captains, School Council, Values Council and Librarians. We had some very ambitious applications and it was interesting to hear the children’s views on the school and how they could improve certain areas.
You may have heard your children talking about a lockdown. This is something we have introduced and tested out once across the school. A school lockdown is a procedure that occurs when students are locked inside a school building for safety. Classes talked about possible reasons for a lockdown such as a swarm of bees or a loose dog. I was very impressed with the speed in which the children followed instructions and also how quiet and sensible they were throughout the process.
We have received some very exciting post over the last few weeks. Monday 30th was World Postcard Day. We received post from Taiwan, Serbia, Norway, France and Spain. They gave us an incite into life in their country and local traditions. We have then been working on our responses and hope to post them in the week of National Post Day. These postcards will be on display in school so you can see all their lovely work on Friday 25th October.
We are lucky enough to have some PGCE and BEd students join us for part of their training this year. Mrs Woodhouse has started her placement in The Pod and will be here until the end of November. She has lots of valuable experience in other schools and we welcome her to join our staff team. Please do say hello to her.
I have been working closely with the Head Teachers of some of the local small schools. We have partnered to create a visit each term to a different school. Each visit will have a focus and children will be immersed in activities and work closely with pupils from the other schools. As soon as the schools have decided on dates, times and classes I will send a letter out. Class 3 is the first class to have a Spirituality Workshop at Hatherop Church of England School on the 23rd of October.
Term 2- Meysey Hampton – Experience Lent
Term 3- Kempsford – Prayer Space. Week 3rd February.
Term 4- Down Ampney – Experience Lent
Term 5- Ampney Crucis – Vision and Values Day.
Term 6- Southrop – Flourishing together.
We will also be contributing to the Flourishing Art Exhibition at Meysey Hampson in June. This is an exciting opportunity to work in partnership, develop friends in other local schools and also bring back the learning to the rest of the school.
Over the course of the year, we will also be involved in enrichment days such as STEM days, Art Days, Outdoor learning days, and many more. If you have a skill that you could share with the children or a profession that you could discuss with the children, please get in contact with us by emailing the office.
