Welcome back and hello to all the new faces.

The start of a new school year is always a favourite time of year for teachers. Not only do we get to open all of the new stationery, but we also get to welcome new families and hear how those who have moved on are doing.

In this morning’s Welcome Worship, we talked about New Beginnings and our aims for the year.

Love of reading

What better way to start a new academic term than each class receiving an exciting new text to read! Books were  given out with a simple clue to engage the children in conversation on what it could be.

Throughout the year Mrs Baker and I will be running some open library sessions supported by a team of student librarians. Once termly we will invite parents to accompany their child to a ‘Tea and Read’ session first thing in the  morning before school. This will be by invitation only – please let us know if you can attend.

Phonics

On Monday 2nd September all staff had a whole day of training on our new phonics scheme, Unlocking Letters and Sounds. This programme comes with a wide range of new and exciting books some of which will appear in your children’s bags to read. We will be running a session for EYFS/KS1 in the coming weeks. A date will be communicated with you as soon as it is set. This will be an opportunity for you to come and learn a bit about the new programme, look at the new texts and ask any questions you may have regarding phonics and reading.

Art Gallery

Over the last year we have had some fantastic art work on display in the school corridors which have been missed by some parents and carers. This year, we would like to invite you to visit a pop-up art gallery- where you will see examples of some monoprints, mosaic work, layered portraits and much more. Our first will take place on Friday 25th October. More details will follow.

Friends of Kempsford

Over the last year there have been some very successful events organised and run by the Friends such as Cinema evenings and Christmas Fairs. Funds raised from these events have enabled the school to replenish resources, and source new resources for the playground such as a reading shed, some scooters and helmets. These events are not possible without the support from parents. It would be   lovely to build the Friends Team. I invite anyone interested to contact the office or speak to myself on the gate.
