School Gate Arrangement During Roadworks

Please use the side gate (by the pre-school entrance and the village hall) tomorrow, instead of the main playground gate. The gap between the roadworks and the school is now very narrow and we’ve decided it would be safer to avoid using the main gate entrance.

Please ensure you deliver and collect children using the side gate, staff will be on-hand in hi-vis jackets to marshal people if needed.

Please try and avoid parking in the vicinity of the school as access around the traffic lights is difficult.

We are in contact with the parish council, local authority and the developers to try and improve the access and parking situation in the vicinity of the school.

Swimming Year 2 – Spring 2015

20th January 2015

Remaining spaces now offered to Year 2 – reply slips to be returned by 9am Tuesday 3rd March

Swimming Lessons-Summer Terms 5 and 6 for Key Stage 2 children

We are offering children in Key Stage 2 the opportunity to have a series of 10 one hour swimming lessons. The lessons will take place from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm on Tuesday afternoons at the Cotswold Leisure Centre in Cirencester starting on 14th April at a subsidised cost of only £5.00 donation per session to include entrance, tuition, achievement badges and a contribution towards transport, making a total contribution of £50 per child. The last lesson is on Tuesday 30th June (no lessons on 19th and 26th May). The Parish Council have kindly contributed £600 towards transport and our school fund makes up the difference between the actual cost and donations received.

Awareness of water safety and the ability to swim 25m unaided are National Curriculum requirements for children aged 11. As a School we feel that it is vitally important that children have the opportunity to acquire these potentially lifesaving skills. We would like as many children as possible to take part and hope to accommodate everyone.

There will be three ability groups.

  1. Confident/Improver – can swim 25m+ unaided in the deep end maximum 20 children
  2. Improver/Beginner- can swim approximately 10-25m unaided maximum 12 children
  3. Beginner/Non Swimmer- can swim less than 10m unaided maximum of 12 children

To help us identify the correct group for your child I would be grateful if you could fill in the slip below and return it to School by Wednesday 25th February. This is only a guide as they will be assessed on the first day but it helps ensure we do not send too many children in a specific ability group. We only have three instructors. Please return this slip completed, even if you do not want your child to swim. Thank you. Deposits of £15 please for swimmers.

Yours sincerely

Richard Mendum – Head Teacher

Inspection of Kempsford Church of England Primary School by Ofsted

Dear parent or carer

Inspection of Kempsford Church of England Primary School by Ofsted

We have just told your child’s school that we will inspect it on 10-11 February 2015. The lead inspector will be Lynne Bradbury. We are writing to you because we would like to know what you think about the school. Please take a few minutes to read the leaflet which came with this letter. It explains why we inspect schools, and what happens during an inspection.

Your views about the school are important to us

If you are a registered parent or carer of a pupil at the school (including pupils on sick leave or who are temporarily excluded), you can tell us your views about the school by completing Ofsted’s online survey, Parent View, at: www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk.

Parent View asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child’s school, including the progress made by your child, the quality of teaching, dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. The inspectors will use the online survey responses when inspecting your child’s school. Written comments can also be sent to the school in a sealed envelope, marked confidential and addressed to the inspection team.

To register your views, you will need to provide your email address, which will be held securely. It will not be used for any purpose other than providing access to the online survey. Neither schools nor Ofsted will have access to any email addresses.

Please complete the online survey by 11am on 10 February 2015 as this will give the inspection team more time to consider your views. However, we will consider all online responses that are completed during the inspection.

Speaking to an inspector

If you are unable to complete the online survey, it may be possible to speak to an inspector during the inspection, for instance at the start of the school day, or to pass on messages to the inspectors if you are unable to speak to them in person. Inspection administrators will be happy to make the necessary arrangements. If concerns are raised about child protection, we may have to pass the information we receive to social services or the police. You can contact the administrators on 01173115209. Inspectors will be pleased to receive your comments, but cannot deal with complaints about individual pupils or settle disputes between you and the school.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the online survey.

Yours faithfully

Laura Geaghan

Urgent: Christmas Lunch Choice – Tuesday 16th December

Please note that there are 17 families that have not replied to the Christmas Lunch letter. We need to give numbers to the kitchen tomorrow before 9.30 am. In order to give us time to collate the responses we set a deadline of 9am today but we would like to give you a final opportunity to respond either by e-mail today or by paper copy by 8.40am tomorrow. We will provide second copies to all those children who we have not had a slip from.

Please reply even if you do not want a lunch so that we know you have responded and we have your request. We don’t want to disappoint anyone but  if we do not get a response by 8.40am tomorrow we will assume that your child is bringing a packed lunch and they will not be able to request a hot meal for Tuesday 16th December. The numbers for that day will only be taken from the green response slips received by 8.40am tomorrow or by email today, not Parent Pay. Parent Pay is for payment only that day. Thank you.

Please see a copy of the letter here – Christmas Lunch 2014

Important – Please read carefully- School Meal Orders September 2014

Dear Parents

Please note that from September 2014 all school meal orders must be placed online with Parent Pay.

  • New Reception children 2014

You will be issued with an activation letter once your child has been admitted to the school. You can add a child to an existing sibling account but you must not use any account that has been set up for your child at Pre -School. Any funds on their Pre-School account can be transferred in due course.

  • Free School Meals (FSM)

In a change to current procedures you must set up an account and order your meals through parent pay, although you will not be charged. Free School Meals is different from UIFSM (see below) and you should apply for FSM in the usual way, if you are eligible, whatever the age of your child. It is important to do this even if your child is an Infant and eligible for UIFSM. The school receives extra funds for every child that is eligible for FSM and this enables us to provide additional support in the classroom. For information go to the Gloucestershire County Council Website http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/educationgrants.

  • All Infant/ Key Stage 1/ Reception/ Years R-2- Universal Infant Free School Meal (UIFSM)

All Key stage 1 children will be entitled to a free meal if they want one under the new Universal Infant Free School Meal system. You must still book a meal online to receive one and will need an activation letter if you have not already set up an account. Please request one from the office. You can continue to use your existing account and you should not be charged. If you do not book a meal you must supply a packed lunch.

  • Junior/Key Stage 2/ Years 3-6

All key Stage 2 children will have to book and pay for a meal if they want one or provide a packed lunch unless they are registered for Free School Meals.

Please make sure you are prepared for ordering meals for the first day back on Tuesday 2nd September. Orders will need to be placed by the end of the school holidays and by Monday 1st September at the latest.

The published menu is changing. Updated menus will be provided by Edwards and Ward in due course.

Yours sincerely, Pam Smart (Head of School)

Parent Pay – Change to Deadline for Bookings

Some of you may have been experiencing problems with late bookings this week. The school has been unable to add your children to the system but the bookings show the following day which has caused problems reconciling the daily meal numbers for the kitchen.

Apparently there has been a change to the way bookings are recorded. You are now unable to book after 6.30am on the day. If you try to book we cannot then add the booking manually at school.

To avoid problems if you want your child to have  a meal please make sure you book by midnight the previous day. If you are unable to do this, or circumstances change the following day, please contact the school to add or delete a child. Thank you for your co-operation.

Regards,

Carolyn Sleight, School Administration
