About the School

Kempsford School was founded in 1750 as a Charity School. The School is at the heart of the community, and provides equal access to the curriculum for all pupils in a caring, well resourced environment. This enables all children to be happy, whilst reaching their full potential and developing a sense of self-worth within a Christian ethos. High standards and expectations, together with good academic achievement, are widely recognised and form a foundation for the next stage of education, and give the children confidence for their future.

The school is 'voluntarily controlled' by the Church which naturally means the school has a Christian ethos and strong ties with the Church. Historically, the Church owned and ran the school but Local Government took over the management many years ago and the lease of actual buildings a few years ago. The composition of the Governing Body is slightly different in a Controlled School, in that there are 3 Foundation Governors who are appointed by the local Church.

The number on roll (September 2011) is 114 and the children are grouped in four classes according to age. Kempsford Pre-School is situated on the School site and provides day care for children aged 2 to 4 years.

Classes 1, 2 and 3 are in our new building, which also houses the School Hall.  The School Hall has a small kitchen. The library and the study centre/school room are in the original Victorian school building.  Class 4 is situated in an Elliott building at the rear of the School.  In addition there is the original School House, which is now used as the administration centre with a kitchen, and small staff room on the ground floor, and resource rooms on the first floor.  There is a large hard surfaced play area, a pleasant playing field across the road, an outside classroom and a landscaped garden area to the rear of the school.

The School is extremely well supported by Governors, an active 'Friends' association, parents, the Church and the wider community.

Kempsford School is part of a local cluster of Primary Schools, and we have strong ties with Farmor's School, our local 11-18 Comprehensive at Fairford.
