July 2013 Newsletter 3

As we reach the end of what has been an incredibly busy and very eventful school year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for all the support given during the year, be it in the form of helping with trips, transport, production scenery, fundraising events, helping in classrooms, or the many other ways in which you help us – and last but not least, in helping your child/children with reading, spellings etc., at home.  We are grateful for the time so many of you give to the school.

I would also like to thank those of you who joined us for the various End of Year events, such as Sports Day, Rocky Monster Show and the Leavers’ Service.

Special thanks to The Friends of Kempsford School, who have been fundraising throughout the year, and helping right up until the last minute with the provision of refreshments at the end of year performances.

I am sure you will all join with me in thanking the Staff, Governors and Friends of the school for all their hard work during the year.  In particular, we wish Mrs Thorne and Miss Jeffries, who are leaving us, the very best of luck for the future.  I would also like to thank Mrs Jones for standing in as Class 5 Teacher for this term, I am sure we will see her from time to time when supply cover is needed.

Finally, on behalf of the staff and governors, I would like to wish our current Year 6 children, and any other leavers, our best wishes for the future.

Have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you on the 4th September.

Best Wishes – Pam Smart – Acting Headteacher

Proposed Year 5/6 Residential Trip to In2action, Whitemead – Monday 19th to Friday 23rd May 2014 – We have not received sufficient positive responses to make this trip viable.  If you are unsure as to whether you would like your child to go and would like to find out more information about In2action, please go to www.in2actionschools.co.uk. If you would like your child to attend, and you have not yet responded, please can you do so tomorrow before 10.00am?  If the £50 deposit is causing you any difficulties, please speak with Mrs Smart or the school office.  Thank you.

Garden clearance – The garden at the back of the school is in need of some tender loving care!  There will be a working party day on Saturday 31st August from 10.00am till 4.00pm.  Many hands make light work, and with this in mind, we hope some of you will be able to join us to assist.  Please bring your own spade, fork, pruners etc.  Tea, coffee, squash and biscuits will be provided.  Children are most welcome but as there will be garden tools around, for health and safety reasons they must be accompanied by parents who will be responsible for them at all times.  For any queries please contact Adrian Lines (Foundation Governor) on 07811 690535.  Thank you.

Parking Arrangements for tomorrow – We have been informed by the Police that staff and parents are not permitted to park in the village hall car park tomorrow.  There will also be parking restrictions in place for parking on the road.  To ease congestion, and to ensure the safety of all children, the following arrangements have been made: –

At 8.45am

  • If at all possible, please leave the car at home and walk your child/children to school.
  • If travelling by car is essential, please park at The George Inn, Kempsford and walk your child/children to school from there. (NB The George will be serving a delicious full English breakfast!)
  • If neither of the above options are possible for you, please drop your child/children at the school gate, and staff will chaperone them in to the playground.

At 1.30pm

  • If at all possible, please leave the car at home and collect your child/children on foot.
  • If collection by car is essential, please park at The George Inn, Kempsford and collect your child on foot from there.
  • If neither of the above options are possible, please ring the school office before 12.30pm (810367) to inform us, and at 1.30pm, staff will chaperone your child/children to waiting cars.

*NB – Please note the earlier finish time of 1.30pm tomorrow*

Absences during term time – We have been informed by the Gloucestershire Local Authority that rules with regard to children taking time off during term time for holidays are going to be tightened from September 2013.  The school will no longer be permitted to authorise up to 10 days holiday within an academic year.  Absences for medical appointments will still be authorised in the same way as they are now.
