July 2013 Newsletter 1

Dear Parents

Key Stage 2 Dress Rehearsal – change of date – Please note that the Dress Rehearsal that was scheduled for the afternoon of Friday 12th July will now take place on Monday 15th July at 1.15pm.  The two main performances will take place on Monday 15th July and Tuesday 16th July at 7.00pm as previously advertised.  Tickets will not be required.

Staff News – We are pleased to inform you that Ms Andrea Norman will be joining us in September as our Class 3 teacher.  Andrea is currently working at Chesterton Primary School in Cirencester and comes to us highly recommended.  I am sure she will be an asset to our team at Kempsford.

School Uniform – Please note elastic ties are available to order from the Simply School Wear website.  If you click on the picture of the standard tie, the option to select an elastic tie will appear.  Book bags will also be available in the very near future, if they are not already.  Place your order at or call 0800 404 6644.

Absences during term time – We have been informed by the Gloucestershire Local Authority that rules with regard to children taking time off during term time for holidays are going to be tightened from September 2013.  The school will no longer be permitted to authorise up to 10 days holiday within an academic year.  Absences for medical appointments will still be authorised in the same way as they are now.

Singing and Instrumental Lessons – September 2013 – As in previous years, teachers will be visiting the school to provide lessons in singing, guitar, woodwind and violin.  If your child will be in Year 3 or above in September 2013 and he/she would like to receive lessons, please notify the school office.  If your child is already having lessons, please ensure the relevant music teacher is aware of whether your child would like to continue in September.

Sports day, Thursday 11th July – Our sports afternoon will start at 1.00pm and will finish at approximately 3.00pm.   During the sports afternoon, the village hall will be open for refreshments for parents to enjoy.  As mentioned in previous correspondence, if possible, please provide your child with a t-shirt to wear for the sports afternoon in their house colour (Arkell – red, Battersby – green, Weymouth – yellow and Faulkner – green).  We do intend to run more inter-house events in the future.  Thank you.

The Friends of the school will be providing a barbeque from 3.00pm onwards at very reasonable prices, to coincide with the Open Evening.  At the Open Evening (3.00pm – 6.00pm) there will be displays of the children’s work in the classrooms.

Pate’s Grammar School – Year 5 Open Mornings An invitation from Russell Ellicott, Head Master

We will be holding two Open Mornings on Thurs 27th June and Wed 10th July 2013 at 09:10 or 09:45 on both days – Year 5 students and parents considering applying for entry to Pate’s Grammar School in September 2014 are invited to attend an open morning. Come along, see the school in action and meet some students from our current Year 7.   We will introduce key members of staff, who will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

If you would like to come along to one of our open mornings, please book a place by emailing – please include the following details: Date of session / time of session / no. attending / 2nd (reserve) preference.  If you don’t hear from us please assume that your first preference booking has been made and just come along on the day. We will only contact those for whom the second choice has been allocated, or if the sessions are unfortunately fully booked.
